POI WEEK 3 - The magic of BREAKS - Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves when practice gets rough is to pause, regroup, maybe do something else for a bit, or just rest, recover, reconsider.

Let it go..

And then come back. Try again.

It‘s so easy to ‘go for the grind’ and push ourselves ever harder when things get tricky.

Then it FEELS like we are doing more.

However.. it’s in the breaks that the magic happens.

We are built to adjust, to adapt, to get stronger, faster, more skilled.. but the actual change happens during recovery. In our sleep, in our subconscious, in our bodies.

Practice is the input. Change the output.

Little breaks, or longer ones.

‘Under water’

Try it out! Go hard, practice deeply, hit that wall, take a break, sleep on it, then try again.. See what happens.

Then keep at it. 💪🏻🔥❤️✨

WEEK 2 - POI adventures 😁 Keepin’ at it with the practise 💪🏻🔥💕👀✨

This week’s poi exercises were quite a challenge, so it took me a bit longer to film something that actually shows what we’re supposed to do 😄

Uneven circles.

They *still* are a challenge for me right now (as you can see, especially with turns 🙈), but they do help me notice how easy in comparison the exercise of last week (even circles) now feels.

THAT one feels super smooth now 😁🧦👍🏻👌🏻💕✨

That’s how it goes, right?

It’s so easy to forget to celebrate our progress (in life as well) and focus on what does not quite work instead.

So.. why not do both?

Keep goal(s) in mind, find yourself something to strive for, big or small.

And, in the mean time, take time to enjoy the ride.

Wahoo!

SAFETY FIRST! Here are 4 quick & easy-to-do strength exercises to do to help keep you safe in case of a fall/slip/stumble (onstage or offstage!) 👇👇👇

1: one-armed wall push ups
2: one-legged tricep dips
3: padded lunges
4: assisted pistol squats

Do 5-10 of each on every side, then repeat the whole sequence for 2-3 rounds!

These will also make (planned!) floor work transitions and ascents/descents easier ☺️

If yes, what happened? What was the cause? How did you react? How did you get back up? Were you ok after?

What was most memorable about it?

And, bonus question: Do you ever use floorwork in your dance/martial arts?

What I remember from both times I stumbled/slipped during a performance is the feeling of time slowing down (and thinking.. ‘is this really happening? Yep, I guess it is!’), but still not being able to do much about the gravity situation 😂

Except for remembering to point my toes(!) 🙈

Elegance must prevail! Right? 😅
